Empowering Survivors Together

SERVING THE MUSKINGUM COUNTY AREA

At Heroes Landing™, our multidisciplinary team of experts coordinates the investigation and recovery for child sexual abuse survivors. By providing access to advocacy, justice, and care, we empower children to become heroes of their own stories and to break the cycle of abuse.

What is a Children’s Advocacy Center?

Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs) are child-focused facilities that help abused children heal by coordinating the investigation and treatment of child sexual abuse. CACs provide children and families access to long-term advocacy and healthcare.

At a CJC, a child tells their story ONE TIME to a trained interviewer. Then, based on the interview, a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) decide together how to best help the child. A multi-disciplinary team consists of medical professionals, law enforcement, social workers, therapists, and other professionals, who come together to offer a wide variety of services, ranging from therapy to courtroom preparation.

Without a CJC, children may end up reliving trauma by recounting the worst experience of their lives repeatedly throughout the investigation process. However, in a CJC setting, children share their trauma ONLY ONE TIME to trained professionals.
